About Colette

A Londoner by birth, Colette Dartford attended university in the beautiful World Heritage City of Bath, and then made it her home. Her academic career consisted of a First-Class Honours Degree, a Masters Degree awarded with distinction and an ESRC scholarship to undertake a Doctorate in Political Science. Her thesis, ‘New Labour, New Language: Ideas, Discourse and Policy’, was published in 2001.

Writing is a second career for Colette. She considered going into politics but changed her mind after spending time in Westminster, interviewing politicians, think-tank experts and journalists. She worked as a Research Consultant before moving to Northern California’s Napa Valley, where she wrote her debut novel, Learning To Speak American. Once relocated back in England, Colette continued to write and was signed by leading literary agent, Robert Kirby of United Agents.
